Pre-Season #3 Mar 25, 2023
Presentation & Line Following
Presentation & Line Following
Leon started out the session by presenting his homework assignment: "Innovation Project Feedback - Improvements." Key takeaways were addressing the lack of iterations in the innovation project design and how to address them better
Today's session was focused on the Line Following Challenge. The team did not use any line following in the previous season, and it was time to get ready.
Each team member was assigned to build a robot from scratch and have it follow a line challenge. The results were great.
Coach Will did an introduction in line following in terms of strategies, as seen in some of the illustrations below.
The High Blocks Jr Explore Team was invited to join the team for their own presentation. The goal was for them to get comfortable speaking in front of the group and present the takeaway from their first session which happened in parallel
Coach Will updated the stud.io design plan for the team's 2023/2024 Base Robot. Our 2022/2023 Robot was a variation of an existing rebrickable plan the team picked back at the beginning of the season. Our 2022/2023 version is available here: FLL Base Robot Building Instructions on Rebrickable.
Following up on the previous season, the team identified a few weak spots: center of gravity, wheel size, issues with the dog gear, and sharp corners causing issues during the game. The 2023/2024 robot incorporates significant improvements.
Each team member will build their own base robot and is tasked to incorporate a more advanced line following algorithm including adding the 'go straight' function rather than going only left and right.
