HighBlocks Explore Team Shines at FLL Explore Festival, Wins Team Model Award

The HighBlocks Explore Team proudly participated in the FLL Explore Festival on December 7, 2024, held at a historic church in downtown Atlanta. Joining 13 other teams from across Georgia, our team showcased months of dedication and creativity in an unforgettable event.

For the past four months, the team, guided by our two incredible coaches, worked tirelessly to build intricate team models and rehearse engaging skits. At the festival, we explored the venue, observed other teams’ models, and exchanged ideas about design and innovation. Many attendees admired our poster board, which creatively depicted the five levels of the ocean, setting the stage for our project’s theme.

During the interview session, which began around 10:30 a.m., the team impressed judges and observers alike with their collaboration, enthusiasm, and thoughtful presentations. Our skit and models highlighted environmental solutions, such as an underwater lab, a seaweed farm, a fish safe house and sea turtle sanctuary. 

The team confidently answered several insightful questions, including:

• What did you learn from this project?

• How did you practice core values?

• What skills did you learn from one another?

• Can you show and explain your model to the judges?

We explained the project's focus: combating global warming by keeping oceans clean, reducing waste, and protecting marine life.

As the awards ceremony approached, excitement filled the air. When the Team Model Award was announced, the entire team was overjoyed. This prestigious award recognized the innovation and creativity infused into our designs and models—a true testament to the hard work and dedication displayed throughout the season.

What a fantastic achievement for the HighBlocks Explore Team! This experience will undoubtedly inspire us to continue learning, growing, and making a positive impact on the world.
