Presentation, Questionnaire, and Game Strategies

In the first part of the session, Ms. Michelle (Daniel’s mom) spoke to the kids about the presentations they will deliver at the competitions. She began by asking: It is still early in the season, and we are very busy designing our robot attachments and developing ideas for the innovation project. Why do we talk about presentations now? She went on explaining the importance of meticulous documentation every week and effective communication with the judges and what the judges look for in a presentation. The team then watched an official video about the FLL tournament and had a lively discussion about the core values (teamwork, inclusion, impact, fun, discovery, and innovation) as well as gracious professionalism and coopertition, which they will apply to everything they do throughout the season!

Next, the team broke out into two groups. Group 1 (Daniel, Olivia, and Jason) worked with Coach Ben to design a questionnaire for soliciting feedback from experts on our innovation project. The questionnaire describes three ideas related to ocean farming and asks how useful and practical each idea is. Group 2 (Brandon, Larry, and Leon) worked with Coach Will on robot game strategies. They rated all the missions based on their difficulty and points and listed them in a priority table with four color-coded priority levels. What a productive session!

Snack time is always fun. The kids played with two long ropes. Guess what they are made of? The Karate belts Brandon and Wesley have earned. Very impressive accomplishments, Brandon and Wesley!

As usual, the last part of the session was devoted to building the attachments.
